The Emotional Release of Lymphatic Drainage

Understanding Emotional Release in Lymphatic Drainage. You feel energy to dance again

The Emotional and Physical Benefits of Lymphatic Drainage

I was receiving a lymphatic session from one of the amazing women I work with and I wanted to share an insight that emerged from our heartfelt conversation.

As we perform lymphatic drainage, it’s not just the physical benefits we notice. Yes, we’re pulling out all that nasty, stagnant gunk from your tissues, but sometimes, there’s something deeper happening too. We’ve observed a frequent release of emotions during and after these sessions, and it’s truly fascinating.

Understanding Emotional Release in Lymphatic Drainage

The emotional release of Lymphatic Drainage

It came up that a significant portion of our clients have emotional releases when receiving lymphatic drainage… much more so than other types of massages we offer.  There are several reasons why this could be occurring:

It could simply be that the patient population we work with generally has some pretty heavy, emotional things going on in their lives.  After all, that’s why they come to see us! They may have just had surgery, or they may be going through cancer treatment, or dealing with a chronic autoimmune condition.

All of these would, understandably, put someone on the verge of a meltdown.

But it’s almost as if, while we’re clearing out the physical congestion, we’re also helping to process and release emotional blockages. Our bodies store so much more than we realize – not just physical toxins, but emotional ones too. Stress, anxiety, old traumas, and unresolved feelings can all linger in our tissues, causing discomfort and tension that sometimes we aren’t even aware of.

You May Experience a Range of Emotions

During our sessions, as the lymphatic system gets the gentle nudge to start flowing freely again, we often see clients experiencing a range of emotions. Tears might flow, laughter might bubble up, or a deep sense of peace might settle in. They often tell us things “they’ve never told anyone”. It’s all part of the healing process. Could it be, that as we pull all the cell waste and debris lingering in the tissue space, we are also pulling out stored emotions?

Anyone who knows me personally knows there’s very little about me that is “woo-woo”.  But the evidence that these types of emotional releases are a crucial aspect of healing are undeniable. Just as our bodies need to detoxify, so do our minds and spirits. When these emotions come to the surface, it’s a sign that true healing is taking place. It’s a reminder that our bodies and emotions are deeply interconnected and that taking care of one aspect inevitably nurtures the other.

Releasing Emotion is Part of the Journey

So next time you come in for a session, know that it’s okay to feel whatever comes up. Whether it’s relief, joy, sadness, or anything in between, it’s all part of your journey towards better health and well-being. And remember, we’re here to support you through it all – both the physical and emotional aspects of your healing.

On a personal note, when this conversation came up, I was receiving my first in a series of lymphatic drainage massages from my crew.  I had been neglecting self-care for an embarrassing amount of time and this was my first step to getting back on track. That first session addressed the fluid that had been building up around my ankles due to the summertime heat!  I’ll follow up with the findings after I finish my series!… I plan to get at least 6 sessions in the next 2-3 weeks (I’m way overdue you guys).
